Acharacle is a small crofting village but
has plenty of amenities.
There are two hotels and a restaurant within a 2 mile radius
which serve local produce and seafood. In the village itself
there is a Post Office and Tea Room, a garage, a Take-Away,
a Bakery (which produces fresh bread, pies etc daily), an
Out of Doors shop and a grocery store. There is also a Medical
Centre and a dentist in the village.
Things to see and do
Our roads are uncrowded and fascinating. The Sunart Oakwoods
project has revitalised the area, with the clearance of invasive
species to reveal the hills and shores of Loch Sunart, the
longest east-west sea loch in Britan.
There is an abundance of beautiful walks, beaches, and wildlife
in Ardnamurchan - we've been known to have otters in our garden
ponds on occasion. Otters are common on Lochs Sunart, Ailort
and Moidart, and sightings of Golden and White-tailed Sea
Eagles are reported daily.
Walkers will find uncrowded hills with fabulous views and
stunning geology - the whole area was shaped by the most recent
ice age, and far longer ago by volcanic activity - the calderas
on Ben Hiant and near Ardnamurchan Point, 55 million years
old, are a must. The historian or archaeologist will find
much of interest in the many abandoned settlements scattered
all over the peninsula.
